Once the painting was done, the electricians could come in and put all of the receptacles,
switches and light fixtures in. This is when you really start to see the house taking
shape. We no longer had to stretch extension cords throughout the house whenever we
wanted to do some work.

Even though we had talked about which switch would turn on which light, it still took
awhile to figure out which switch did what! Be prepared for a larger than normal electric
bill the first month after everything is turned on as you tend to turn lights on just
because you can and you are tired of only using little portable lamps!

The final plumbing includes setting all of the toliets, sinks and bathtubs. The garden tub
required four of us to lift the tub into place so that the location of the feet of the tub

could be marked. Then we had to lift it back out so that cement could be poured onto the
floor where the feet would be. The cement is used to support the tub and the large amount
of water that can be in the tub when it is full.

Since we were not getting flooring before we moved in, the area of the floor around all of
toliets had to be painted so that if the toliets would leak, the wood would not get wet
right away. Not putting the flooring down now and installing the toliets mean that we
will have to un-install the toliets and get new wax rings for the toliets after the floor
is installed.

During this phase, our appliances were delivered. The store that we bought the appliances
from would hook-up the stove and refrigerator free of charge but charges an extra $80 to
hook-up the dishwasher. I quickly discovered that hooking up a dishwasher is not rocket
science. If you can make it this far in building your house, you can hook up a dishwasher.
The job requires you to wire in a plug for the electric outlet and to screw on the water line.
The final act is to screw in the dishwasher to the cabinets. Make sure that your plumber knocks
out the plastic piece on the garbage disposal where the dishwasher drains into as your
dishwasher will not run correctly if this is not done.
