In the Real World(tm), my name is Sally Burnell and I work as a Library Assistant at the Akron-Summit County Public Library in Akron, OH and I live in Kent, OH near Kent State University. My other interests in the SCA besides Calligraphy and Illumination are period music, architecture, fibre arts, painting and dance. Outside of the SCA, I am interested in American Civil War history and the history of the Western Reserve. I'm also a member of the Kent Civil War Society, a local Civil War Round Table. I love folk music and dance (mostly Irish, but I like other stuff, too) and I listen to folk music, hosted by Jim Blum, on the radio on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings, from 8:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. on WKSU, 89.7 FM, our local NPR station here in Kent.
Every summer, I study some facet of Irish music at the Augusta Heritage Arts Center in Elkins, West Virginia, at their Irish Week in July. It's like being in Ireland without having to go to Ireland to eat, live, breathe and sleep Irish culture, music, language and dance for one incredible week each summer!
